The second PSA 10 Art Academy Pikachu sold for $1,037,000 at Goldin. Bidders priced it off the paid comp, not the $8.4 million headline.

A PSA 10 copy of the 2015 Japanese XY Promo Art Academy Pikachu sold for $1,037,000 with the buyer's premium in Goldin's TCG Weekly auction, which closed on Sunday night, October 11. Chase Society reported the result on October 12, and Collectibles News put the winning bid at $850,000 before the premium. The lot drew 64 bids. Per Chase Society, the winning bid came in on Thursday and nobody topped it over the weekend.

The card is the Pikachu that Y. Fujishima drew for the Pokémon Art Academy contest, issued as promo XY-P with a run of 100. Goldin's listing notes that nobody knows how many of the 100 ever left the artist's hands, per Collectibles News. PSA has graded 57 copies a 10, per Chase Society.

It is the second PSA 10 of this card to sell publicly in a month. The first was hammered at $8,400,000 at Fanatics Collect on September 27, and Chase Society notes that the $8.4 million slab still showed unpaid 15 days later.

The ladder

Chase Society's public PSA 10 sales for the card, with Sunday's rung added:

DateVenuePrice
July 24, 2025Fanatics Collect$17,400
June 27, 2026Heritage$156,250
Sept 27, 2026Fanatics Collect$8,400,000 (unpaid at 15 days)
Oct 11, 2026Goldin$1,037,000

Our ledger also carries two earlier PSA 10 sales reported by Dexerto, $12,600 in July 2024 and $19,200 in June 2025. Chase Society's July 2025 figure is $17,400, so the mid-2025 sales may be two different copies. Either way, the card traded under $20,000 until this summer.

Six and a half times the paid comp, one eighth of the headline

Sunday's price is 6.6 times the $156,250 Heritage sale in June, the last PSA 10 sale of this card that cleared. It is about one eighth of the $8.4 million hammered at Fanatics two weeks earlier.

Those two ratios are the story. Goldin's bidders had two numbers to anchor on, a paid sale from June and an unpaid hammer from September, and the price they settled on sits far closer to the paid one. An unpaid hammer can set a news cycle, but the paid comp sets the next bid. Chase Society runs an unpaid table alongside its weekly sales list for exactly this reason, and the Pikachu is now its cleanest example: one card, two auctions, a month apart, one result that cleared and one that hasn't.

A million dollars for a card that sold for $156,250 in June is still a re-rating, whatever the headline did. The 6.6x in three and a half months belongs to the broader move in top-grade Pokémon this autumn, the same weeks that put a PSA 10 1st Edition Charizard at $1,385,274 and a red-dot Typhlosion at $1,549,690 at Alt (see Big News).

The census

Fifty-seven PSA 10s out of a print run of 100 is an unusual ratio for a card at this price. More than half of the whole print already sits at the top grade, so the gem copy is not the scarce version of this card; the card itself is. The supply has been fixed since 2015. What moved was the bid.

What to watch

Figures are as reported by the sources below on the dates shown. The $1,037,000 includes the buyer's premium; the $8,400,000 is a hammer result that Chase Society lists as unpaid. Population counts are as stated by Chase Society. This is market data and commentary, not investment advice.
