A PSA 10 red-dot Typhlosion sold for $1,549,690 at Alt. The dot carried the premium, and PSA's label doesn't record it.

Alt closed two 1st Edition Pokémon cards past a million dollars on Thursday night, October 8, per Chase Society's October 12 roundup of the week's sales. The larger was a 2000 Neo Genesis 1st Edition holo Typhlosion in PSA 10 at $1,549,690 with the buyer's premium. The other was a 1999 Base Set 1st Edition Charizard in PSA 10 at $1,385,274.

The Typhlosion is a red dot copy. Chase Society describes the error as a small red ink dot printed beside the set symbol, just under the art. PSA has graded 13 copies of the card a 10, dot or not, and PSA's label doesn't note the dot. Nobody outside the grading room knows how many of the 13 carry it.

3.7 times the no-dot copy

The comp Chase Society sets against it is the June PSA 10 at Alt, which made $415,500 and has no dot. Thursday's price is 3.7 times that. Chase Society says to read the multiple with care, and the reason is in the census: the dot copies are their own population inside the 13, and that population has no published count. A buyer paid $1.5 million for a variant that the slab's label doesn't name.

That makes the Typhlosion a different kind of sale from the Charizard. The Charizard has 123 copies at PSA 10, per Chase Society and per Jazwares president Jeremy Padawer, who revealed the result on X (via Vice). It sold at about three times the $462,500 Heritage sale in June, per Chase Society, and above the $1,000,952.84 eBay sale on September 9 that Sports Illustrated's Card Ladder data had as the previous public high. Alt calls it the highest public sale for any Charizard, per Collectibles News. On the same night, the pop-13 error card out-sold the pop-123 icon by $164,416.

Chase Society reports the Typhlosion with the premium included. Neither Vice nor Collectibles News says whether the Charizard figure includes one.

Payment is the asterisk

Both lots showed payment pending at Alt four days in, per Chase Society, which notes that Alt's October 1 winners had already paid by the same point and says it will read these two again next week. The week's other seven-figure slabs hadn't settled either, one to four days in. That is the backdrop for every big Pokémon number this month: the $8.4 million Art Academy Pikachu at Fanatics still showed unpaid 15 days on (see The Lead), while Alt's four lots above $500,000 from October 1 all cleared, per Chase Society's October 9 column.

So the honest reading of Thursday night is two prices, $1,549,690 and $1,385,274, that stand as winning bids until Alt marks them paid. Alt's record on the October 1 lots argues for taking them seriously. The Fanatics lot argues for waiting.

Alt's same session also moved a sealed 2002 Legendary Collection booster box at $381,000 with premium. Goldin sold one for $184,220 on August 9, so this box paid about twice that in two months. Chase Society wants a second sale before calling it the new level.
