Konami is forbidding 34 Yu-Gi-Oh! cards and limiting 8 more in an emergency list revealed in five parts at YCS Houston this weekend
Konami's Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG accounts said on October 14 that a Forbidden & Limited list update is coming to prepare the game for Magnificent Maestros, with 34 newly forbidden cards and 8 newly limited cards, per YGOrganization. The names come out in five parts at YCS Houston: one on Friday, two on Saturday and two on Sunday. YCS Houston runs October 16 to 18 at NRG Park, with Genesys on Friday, day 1 of the Advanced Constructed main event on Saturday and day 2 on Sunday, per Konami's event page.
GamesRadar (October 15) calls it emergency action. Its piece quotes Yu-Gi-Oh! content creator Joseph "MBT" Rothschild describing a format that has hit a singularity, and notes that regional attendance has been falling. Yugioh Meta carried the same 34-and-8 count on October 14. No card names and no effective date were out as of Thursday night.
What is known and what is not
| Item | Status |
|---|---|
| Newly forbidden | 34 cards |
| Newly limited | 8 cards |
| Reveal | Five parts at YCS Houston, Oct 16–18: one Friday, two Saturday, two Sunday |
| Card names | Not announced before Friday's first part |
| Effective date | Not announced |
| Magnificent Maestros | Nov 13 in stores, per ICv2; Konami's European product page says Nov 12 |
A forbidden card cannot be played in the Advanced format, the format YCS Houston's Saturday and Sunday main event uses; a limited card is capped at one copy in a deck. Konami framed the list as making room for Magnificent Maestros, the set ICv2 reported on August 7 with a November 13 street date.
Why 34 is the number that matters
Forty-two cards changing status at once is unusual enough that GamesRadar led with the word emergency, and the five-part reveal spreads the news across the weekend that the game's biggest North American event of the autumn is being played. Every one of those cards has a price today that was set by players who had to own it; by Sunday night each of them has either kept that demand or lost it.
Yu-Gi-Oh! prices under a ban list have not been tracked in the written sources we use, so the nearest recorded case is Magic's. When the Commander Rules Committee banned Dockside Extortionist, Mana Crypt, Jeweled Lotus and Nadu, Winged Wisdom in September 2024, MTG Insider reported that Dockside lost about 75% of its value and Mana Crypt 53.8% on the day, per PureGrail's October 9 review of the record. MTG Insider's table had Jeweled Lotus at $30 from $88, Mana Crypt at $85 from $184 and Dockside at $20 from $81. MTG Rocks, using TCGplayer data, put the Kaladesh Masterpiece Mana Crypt at about $500 from $950, a smaller percentage loss than the cheap printings but about $450 in dollars, and Nadu at about $1.80 from $3.20. PureGrail's read is that the loss was large only where the card was expensive and depended on the format that banned it.
The reverse case is on the record too. Rumours of an unban moved Jeweled Lotus from about $31 to $83 in February 2026 before Wizards said on February 9 that it was staying banned, per MTG Rocks and TCGplayer via PureGrail; MTGGoldfish had the Commander Legends copy at $45.87 when PureGrail wrote on October 9. When Modern unbanned Umezawa's Jitte on May 18, 2026, the Betrayers of Kamigawa printing went from $12.50 to $39 in recent sales, per MTG Rocks.
Those are Magic numbers from a format with one deck size and a different rarity structure, so they set a scale, not a forecast. What they show is the direction and the speed: the repricing of a banned card happened the same day the list was published.
What to watch this weekend
The first of the five parts lands Friday, during the Genesys event, and the full list is out by Sunday. The first full week of Yu-Gi-Oh! prices under the new list starts Monday, October 19, and Magnificent Maestros follows on November 13. YGO Fresh Off The Press discussed the announcement on October 15 (linked in Relevant Content); the price moves the host cites for individual cards are not confirmed in writing, so they are not in this file.
Figures are as reported by the sources below on the dates shown. Magic price moves are as reported by MTG Insider, MTG Rocks, TCGplayer and MTGGoldfish via PureGrail, by printing and at the times those outlets measured. This is market data and commentary, not investment advice.
