Fanatics Collect's $8.4 million Pikachu sale read unpaid for 16 days, was deleted on October 14 and came back flagged paid on October 15
The $8.4 million PSA 10 Art Academy "Raincoat" Pikachu, cert 24753376, closed in Fanatics Collect's weekly auction on September 27 at 11:24 PM ET after 64 bids, per Chase Society (published October 16, updated October 17). For about 16 days the lot read unpaid in Fanatics' public sales feed. On October 14 the row was deleted and the lot page changed to cancelled. On October 15 at 1:09 PM ET the row returned, flagged paid, carrying an update stamp shared by at least 64 other lots from the same night. As of October 16 the lot page still read cancelled while the feed read paid.
Chase Society sent Fanatics questions on October 15 with a 2 PM October 16 deadline and reports no response. It calls the lot unresolved, offers a late payment with an un-updated page as the plain explanation, and says it cannot rule out the others. This file reports what the record shows and nothing beyond it.
The record, week by week
Chase Society's figures come from Fanatics' public feed of weekly results, read at stated times.
| Weekly close | Lots over $40,000 | Lots over $100,000 |
|---|---|---|
| June 7 to Sept 13 | Every lot read paid | Every lot read paid |
| Sept 20 | Not broken out | 34, all paid |
| Sept 27 | 86: 5 unpaid, 8 deleted | 34 paid, 1 unpaid, 2 deleted |
| Oct 4 | 84 paid, 56 unpaid, 3 deleted | 23 paid, 26 unpaid, 1 deleted; $6.07M unpaid |
| Oct 11 | 71 paid, 90 unpaid, 2 deleted | 19 paid, 35 unpaid, 1 deleted |
The October 17 update moved the October 11 count to 34 of 54 lots over $100,000 still unpaid, $7.54 million in all, after three more lots were flagged paid on the night of October 16, the largest a $156,000 Alakazam Gold Star. Two more October 11 lots left the feed the same day, a $78,000 EX Emerald Deoxys EX and a $72,000 Unseen Forces Tyranitar EX, both 2005 PSA 10s and both unpaid when last seen, which brings the deleted lots since October 8 to 15. The October 4 night's unpaid lots include a $960,000 Great Encounters Cresselia and an $840,000 Southern Islands Mew; the Mew's $840,000 was the record a $660,000 copy fell short of a week later (The Tape).
What the rules say and when they bite
Fanatics Collect's FAQ gives buyers five days to remit payment after a weekly close. Its terms give ten business days, or another period Fanatics specifies, and say a sale is removed if payment is not received. Chase Society puts the ten-business-day deadline for the October 4 lots between October 16 and 20, and planned a verification read of that night's lots for October 19. Since October 14 a card must be on file to bid, charged automatically only on invoices up to $10,000; selling graded cards in the weekly auctions carries no fee.
Other houses show how this is handled elsewhere. Goldin charges the payment method on file on day eight after an invoice. Heritage banned a buyer after a $3.72 million case went unpaid in 2024 and resold the lot for $2.52 million. Alt, where this week's $1,056,000 Magikarp sold (The Lead), showed all 48 readable lots paid as of October 16.
Why the paid flag is the price
Fanatics' own value for the Art Academy Pikachu is $1,037,000, the price a second PSA 10 made at Goldin on October 11 on 64 bids, per Chase Society. The two numbers are 8.1 times apart, and the gap is the whole question for the other PSA 10 copies: Kotaku counted 57 at that grade (No. 002). Until the $8.4 million lot settles, PriceCharting, PSA's cert lookup and Collectr all carry it as a sale, and Collectr priced the card at $6.78 million on October 15 on the strength of it. A price tool that records the feed row records the bid, so every unpaid lot on these lists is currently a comp somewhere.
The earlier PSA 10 sales Chase Society lists are $156,250 at Heritage in June 2026 and $79,999.99 on eBay in January 2026. Against those, the Goldin result is itself a 6.6-times move in four months. The record is two results, $8.4 million unsettled and $1,037,000 paid, and the second is the one a seller can take to another house.
What to watch
October 20 is the end of the window Chase Society reads for the October 4 lots, Cresselia and Mew included. The Pikachu's lot page and feed row disagreeing is the state to watch; if the page flips to sold, or the row leaves again, the record changes. Fanatics' next weekly close is Sunday night, and whether its over-$100,000 lots read paid by Friday is the simplest test of whether the September 27 and October 4 nights were the exception.
Figures are as read by Chase Society from Fanatics Collect's public feed at the times it states, through its October 17 update. Collector Recon has not independently verified payment on any lot and makes no claim about any bidder. This is market data and commentary, not investment advice.
