Santa Ana police put the PSA FedEx truck theft at $963,000 so far: two pallets of graded cards, about 250 packages, taken outside PSA’s shipping site on Oct 13
| LOSS | $963,000 SO FAR · SANTA ANA PD · OCT 19 |
| TAKEN | 2 PALLETS · ABOUT 250 PACKAGES · OCT 13 |
| PSA | CERTS DEACTIVATED · PAYS FMV UP TO INSURED VALUE |
$963,000 PRELIMINARY · NO ARRESTS
Santa Ana police estimate the graded cards stolen from a FedEx truck outside PSA’s shipping site at $963,000 so far, per CBS Los Angeles (Oct 19); Heavy says The Athletic attributes the count to PSA’s tally of the two stolen pallets, and on Oct 20 police told The Athletic the loss is close to $1 million with the exact value still undetermined, per Dexerto. The theft happened Oct 13 in the 1600 block of E. St. Andrew Place, two pallets of about 100 packages each plus about 50 packages from a third, while the driver was away for 60 to 90 minutes; there are no arrests and nothing has been recovered. PSA has deactivated every cert in the load and told marketplace partners to watch for the serials, so the slabs cannot clear a venue that checks certs, and it is paying fair market value up to the Maximum Insured Value each customer chose, which makes the value declared on the submission form the ceiling on what an owner gets back.

Alt’s Oct 15 sale put three PSA 10 Pokémon cards over $1 million in one night, a Gold Star Mudkip at $1,046,250 and a Daisuki Club Umbreon at $1,005,000 among them, all payment pending
Alt’s Thursday, Oct 15 sale closed three PSA 10 Pokémon cards above $1 million, the Tamamushi Magikarp at $1,056,000 (Monday’s Lead), a 2004 Gold Star Mudkip at $1,046,250 and a 2010 Daisuki Club Umbreon at $1,005,000, every one of them payment pending as of Oct 19, per Chase Society’s weekly report. The Mudkip edged the $1,020,000 a PSA 10 made at Fanatics Collect on Sept 20; the Umbreon’s last PSA 10 sale was $146,400 at Goldin in May and Alt’s own valuation was $183,714, so it sold for 6.9 times its last comp and 5.5 times the house estimate, with a Legendary Collection reverse holo Eevee at $615,000 against a $66,000 June comp behind it. PSA counts 42 Mudkip and 43 Umbreon at 10, so the night left 85 cards with a seven-figure comp that no buyer has yet paid; Fanatics’ Oct 4 auction still showed 25 of its 49 six-figure lots unpaid, $5.96 million, when Chase Society read the feed on Oct 19, with its terms’ deadline falling Oct 20.

UltraBall counts 525 Pokémon card sales of $100,000 or more this year, $162.3 million through Oct 16, with 19 over $1 million and 406 of them PSA 10s
UltraBall Research’s study of 2026 sales (Oct 17, data through Oct 16) counts 525 Pokémon cards sold for $100,000 or more, $162,319,302 with buyer’s premium, 19 of them over $1 million and 53 over $500,000; 406 were PSA 10s and 28 PSA 9s, and 360 of the 525, worth $104 million, closed since Sept 1. Fanatics Collect handled 261 ($67.1 million), Alt 135 ($36.1 million, counted only from July 19), Goldin 75 ($44 million), eBay 45 ($6.21 million) and Heritage 9 ($8.99 million); by era, 169 sales were Wizards-era cards from 1999 to 2003 and 12 came from sets printed since 2014. The count treats 37 Alt lots worth $11,723,460 that had closed unpaid as sold and leaves out private sales and Japanese marketplaces, so it is a floor on the public market and a ceiling on what has actually been paid.

FIELD NOTE
Declared value is the payout. The form sets the ceiling.
A deactivated cert leaves a stolen slab worth no more than the raw card inside it on any venue that checks the serial, so the thief holds less than the owner lost and the owner holds a claim capped at what they declared. PSA’s email promises fair market value up to the Maximum Insured Value chosen per item; one collector’s 104-card load was insured for up to $156,000 against cards he values above $100,000, and Heavy’s question about cards insured below their post-grading value went unanswered. For anyone shipping cards to a grader, the declared value on the form is the only number that pays out, and it is written before the grade exists.
