A PSA 10 Tyranitar ex sold for $360,000, 18 months after the same slab sold for $10,555
A PSA 10 Tyranitar ex from 2004's POP Series 1 sold for $360,000 in Fanatics Collect's Weekly auction, which closed on October 25, per ComicBook.com (October 29). The price includes buyer's premium. ComicBook matched the slab's PSA certificate, number 109777264, to an earlier sale of the same card in PSA's sales records: $10,555 on eBay in April 2025.
So this is not a new copy setting a new level. It is one graded card, with one cert, that changed hands twice in about 18 months at prices $349,445 apart. ComicBook puts the gain at about 3,311%. On our math the second price is about 34 times the first.
What the card is
The Tyranitar ex is a holo from POP Series 1, one of the small promo sets The Pokémon Company handed out through organized play. It is illustrated by Hisao Nakamura. ComicBook reports that PSA has graded eight copies at Gem Mint 10. That count is what this sale is about: a buyer who wanted a 10 had eight possible copies, and only the ones whose owners chose to sell were ever on offer.
The same weekend, two more records
The Tyranitar was one of three record sales ComicBook grouped as Dark-type grails, $1,602,100 across the three. Both auctions closed on October 25 and all three prices include premium.
- A PSA 10 Umbreon Gold Star from POP Series 5 made $738,100 at Goldin on 47 bids. A different PSA 10 had sold at Fanatics Collect for $456,000 about an hour earlier, so the record moved twice in one evening, the second time by $282,100.
- A PSA 10 Charizard Gold Star from EX Dragon Frontiers made $504,000 at Fanatics Collect on 44 bids, above the $475,000 Heritage sale of September 18. Another PSA 10 made $430,660 at Goldin the same weekend, per ComicBook.
The Umbreon and Charizard are long-established chase cards with deep demand. The Tyranitar is not in that class by name. What it shares with them is a small pool of 10s.
What the jump says about the market
Three readings, from the evidence we have.
Condition rarity now prices like name rarity. A 30-times jump for a card no one would call a headline Pokémon says buyers at the top are shopping by population as much as by character. Eight 10s is a short list. When even two bidders decide they need one, the last public sale stops being a guide.
The 30th-anniversary auctions concentrated the room. Goldin's Pokémon 30th Anniversary Auction totaled over $28 million with 18 record sales, per ICv2 (October 29), and Fanatics ran its Weekly against it the same night. A pop-8 card sold into that weekend met far more buyers than it would have in April 2025.
An old comp is not a price. The $10,555 sale was a real result, and anyone pricing a PSA 10 Tyranitar ex from it last month would have been wrong by a factor of 34. For small-population graded cards, the date on a comp matters as much as the figure.
None of this says the next PSA 10 will bring $360,000. One sale sets a reference, not a market, and a card whose price moved this far this fast can move back. We could not add a PriceCharting history for this card: its item pages have refused our requests since October 11.
What to watch next
- Whether Fanatics Collect's October 25 results read paid. Chase Society's weekly reports have tracked unpaid Fanatics results through October.
- The next PSA 10 Tyranitar ex to surface, and whether it is offered into a big themed sale or a regular weekly.
- Landry Pop Auctions' Doug Ferguson Pokémon collection on November 3 (Auction Watch), the next notable Pokémon sale on the calendar.
