Delta Reign opens at $222.95 a box, and its smaller products trade at twice retail

Pokémon's Delta Reign goes on sale today, November 6, and the market had already priced it before the first packs reached store shelves. On TCGplayer, the 36-pack booster box shows a Market Price of $222.95 in the November 5 data. That is 38% above the $160.99 Best Buy charges for the same box, per CollectiblesNews, and Best Buy sells it only by invitation.
Delta Reign is the sixth main set in the Mega Evolution series. Its featured card is Mega Rayquaza ex. Best Buy's listing, as CollectiblesNews reports it, says the set has more than 140 cards, including over 35 cards with special illustrations and three new Legendary Stadiums.
The numbers
All market figures below are TCGplayer Market Prices from TCGCSV's November 5 pull. Retail prices are Best Buy's, as reported by CollectiblesNews on November 3.
- Booster box (36 packs): $222.95 market against $160.99 retail, 1.38 times.
- Elite Trainer Box: $103.18 market against $49.99 retail, about 2.06 times.
- Booster Bundle (6 packs): $53.95 market against $26.94 retail, about 2.0 times.
- Single booster pack: $8.47 market.
- Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box (exclusive): $299.38 market.
- Mega Rayquaza ex, 138/103: $397.94 market, the set's top card so far.
The booster box carries the smallest markup of the three main products. The ETB and the Booster Bundle are each trading at roughly double their shelf price.
Why the smaller boxes run hotter
An ETB or a Booster Bundle is the way most collectors buy into a new set. Each costs under $55 at retail, against about $161 for a full box. When supply at retail is tight, that demand has nowhere to go but the secondary market, and it shows up in the cheaper products first.
Best Buy's approach makes that plain. Its booster box is listed as an "Exclusive sales event": shoppers request an invitation, and the ones picked get 24 hours to check out. CollectiblesNews says those not chosen in the first round stay on the list for restocks. A buyer who wasn't invited and wants a box today pays the TCGplayer price, or waits.
The box price at 1.38 times retail is still a premium, but it is closer to what players and box breakers expect to pay in a set's first days. The 2x gaps on the smaller products are what stand out.
How it fits with what we've tracked
Pokémon has been the busiest franchise in our log for weeks. Our watch ranking has it at the Building stage, with podcast talk on several shows well above its own past levels. October's Goldin Pokémon 30th Anniversary auction and Card Ladder's record $1.07 billion October, both covered in recent issues, came from the high end of the market. Delta Reign is the other end: a sealed product anyone can try to buy at retail.
For sealed collectors, the question with any new set is less whether it opens above retail than by how much, and for how long. That gap is the thing to track.
Why it matters for the market
Launch-day markups measure demand against supply, not long-run value. A product at twice retail on its first day says retail supply hasn't met demand yet. It says little about what the product will be worth after restocks.
The ETB is the number to watch. If the ETB's 2x gap narrows as Best Buy and other stores restock, the first wave was a supply squeeze. If it holds, demand for the set runs deeper than the print.
The chase card prices the whole set. Mega Rayquaza ex at $397.94 before most packs are open is what drives the box price. Box values for modern sets tend to follow their top cards, and early card prices move fast as more packs get opened.
What it doesn't tell you. TCGplayer Market Price is based on recent sales, and on a launch weekend those are few and early. We haven't compared Japanese prices for this piece.
